METHOD OF PRODUCING CEMENTED CARBIDE OR CERMET ALLOY.

Cemented carbide or cermet alloy is obtd. by mixing and kneading cemented carbide powder or cermet alloy powder with an organic binder; injection moulding this mixt. into the desired shape; then removing the organic binder by (a) heating in an inert gas at at least 1 atm. pressure then (b) reducing the pressure to below 1 torr. The moulding is then sintered to give a compact alloy moulding. The binder is pref. a combination of low temp. separable and high temp. separable binders (the low temp. binder pref. contg. a wax of softening point below 80 deg.C). If the amts. of low temp. binders are a1 a2 a3...ai and of high temp. binders are b1 b2 b3...bj (where sigmaai + Sigmabj-1) and the wt. loss ratio at temp. T for the low temp. separable binders is xT1 xT2 xT3...xTi and for the high temp. separable binders is yT1 yT2 yT3...yTj; then sigma (ai.xTi)= 0.3; sigma(bj.yTj)= up to 0.05 and sigmabj = at least 0.1.
