Low-viscosity heteropolysaccharides, viz. xanthan gum and S-194 of viscosity 15 to 100 mPa.s and guar gum of viscosity 15 to 100 mPa.s, the viscosities being measured in 5 wt% aqueous solution on a Brookfield LVT viscometer at 25 DEG C, spindle 2,60 rpm, are novel. They are made by heating a xanthan gum, S-194, or guar gum solution at 48 DEG to 83 DEG C in the presence of 0.05 to 0.25% EDTA, 0.01 to 0.1% ferrous sulfate, and 2-6% hydrogen peroxide. These gums are especially useful in preparing herbicidal compositions and form novel complexes with herbicidal bipyridinium salt by mixing under aqueous conditions and drying. |
