<p>PURPOSE:To suppress the lowering of activity of a catalyst repeatedly used or continuously used for a long time by using a substance as the catalyst obtained by treating niobium oxide carried on a support with boric acid, when the title compound is produced from ethylamine and ethanolamine. CONSTITUTION:A substance obtained by bringing niobium oxide carried on a support into contact with boric acid, e.g. by dipping niobium oxide carried on a support into an aqueous solution of boric acid diluted to a concentration of 0.01-10M, preferably 0.1-5M using an inorganic solvent such as water or organic solvent such as alcohol and then burning the boric acid-treated niobium oxide normally preferably at <=1000 deg.C is used as a catalyst. Even when ethyleneamine is made to react with ethanolamine in the presence of the above- mentioned catalyst at 200-350 deg.C, the catalyst can repeatedly be used or continuously be used for a long time, thus polyethylenepolyamine is industrially advantageously obtained under the reduced lowering in the activity of catalyst.</p> |
