This invention relates to thermoplastic, aromatic polycarbonates in which mesogenic compounds corresponding to the following formula <IMAGE> (I) are incorporated as chain terminating agents, to their preparation by the known processes for the preparation of polycarbonates, and to their use for the production of moulded articles for optical purposes.
