CARBON FIBER-CERAMIC COMPOSITE MATERIAL

PURPOSE:To obtain a carbon fiber-ceramic composite material having superior heat and oxidation resistances and mechanical characteristics by impregnating a soln. of diphenylborosiloxane in an org. solvent into the surfaces of carbon fibers or coating the surfaces of the fibers with the soln. and heat-treating the fibers. CONSTITUTION:A soln. of diphenylborosiloxane in an org. solvent is impregnated into the surfaces of carbon fibers or the surfaces of the fibers are coated with the soln. The fibers are then subjected to primary heat treatment at 300-500 deg.C in the air, in an inert gas or in vacuum and secondary heat treatment at a high temp. of >=1,000 deg.C.
