A gripping device for vehicle wheels having elastic tires (2) which are mounted on a rim (3), the gripping device (4) thereby preventing the wheel (1) from sliding on the ground and comprising at least one cross piece having a mid portion (5) which is constituted by a chain, a strap or the like, and terminal hooks (6, 7) by means of which the cross piece can be attached to rim portions (11) at respective sides of the wheel (1), and the mid portion (5) hereby is substantially adapting to the cross sectional shape of the tire (1), and brings about an elastic deformation thereof in such a way that the cross link thereby is heavily tightened. According to the invention the mid portion (5) comprises at least one substantially linear and rigid beam element (8) which during tensioning of the cross piece initially is adapted to abut a portion of the tire between the thread and the wall of the tire and substantially prevent adjacent portions (9, 10) of the cross piece from contacting the tire, so that no frictional force is exerted between these portions and substantially all sides of the cross section of the tire are uniformly compressed during the tensioning. |
