Oxazolidinone compounds of formula (I) and their salts are new. R = a gp. of formula (i) - (vi), Z = O or S. R1 and R2 = phenyl or mono- or bicyclic heterocyclic gp. with 1-4 heteroatoms, (opt. substd. with one or two 1-4C alkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, alkylsulphinyl or alkylsulphonyl and/or 1-6C alkanoyloxy or alkanoylamino, F, Cl, Br, OH or CF3 gps.). m = 0 or 1; n = 2 or 3. 4 cpds. are specifically claimed, including 3-p-methoxyphenyl-5-(2- (4-hydroxy-4-phenylpiperidino)ethyl)- oxazolidin-2-one. (I) is prepd. e.g. by the reaction of Ox-CnH2n-X1 with X2-R-X3. Ox = N-R1-substituted oxazolidin-2-one. X1 = X or NH2. X = Cl, Br, I, OH, or a gp. convertible to OH. Either one of X2 and X3 = NH2 and the other = X; or both together = NH. |
