PURPOSE: To reduce the cut length necessary for insertion through the change to appropriate shape before insertion, and provide the desired original shape, elasticity and softness in an eye after insertion by manufacturing at least a part of a lens out of crosslinked synthetic hydrogel containing acid and/or basic groups. CONSTITUTION: At least a part of a lens is manufactured out of a crosslinked synthetic hydrogel containing acid and/or basic groups. The acid and/or basic groups are present in the whole lens, or in a surface layer of the lens to the thickness of 1-200μm, or only in a part of the lens. The polymer is heated at above Tg to be deformed into a bar, and cooled, and the polymer keeps the bar-shape. Thus, the cut length for insertion in an eye can be reduced. After implantation, the desired original shape, elasticity and softness can be obtained by the temperature, pH and ion intensity in the eye. |
