In a multicell storage battery, the intercell connectors pass through and are secured to removable panels in the tops of the partitions between the cells. As shown in Fig. 4, each panel which may be of rectangular or downwardly tapering form is moulded about the intercell connector 16 and fits within a notch 18 in the top of a partition. Fig. 1 shows a hard rubber battery container which is moulded integral with a longitudinal partition (not shown) and transverse partitions 3. The cells are joined in series by interconnectors 16 and the end cells are connected by bars 28 to terminal stems 17. The ends 29 of the bars 28 and the shanks 30 of the terminal stems 17 are embedded in a panel 25, the edges of which are chamfered as at 27 and which fits within a grooved notch 24 in the container end. The container is closed by a cover 6 which has downwardly depending webs 10 recessed to receive the upper edges of the partitions. The heads of the vent plugs 12 are accommodated within longitudinal channels 13 in the upper surface of the cover and these channels are closed by snap-on celluloid seals 14 and communicate with atmosphere via vent tubes 15. |
