The process concerns control of plant for S recovery by partial combustion of gas (I) contg H2S with gas (II) contg 02 in a combustion chamber of a Claus plant to produce a gas mixt contg H2S and S02, from which S is produced and sepd. Reaction of the gas mixt leaving the combustion chamber is carried out in catalytic stage(s) and opt in after-treatment. Before or after one of the catalytic stages or before, during or after the after-treatment, the concn of H2S and S02, K and P, in the gas mixt is measured; the amts of (I) and (II) supplied to the combustion chamber are measured; the results of these measurements are fed into control equipment and hence the amt of (II) for correction to bring the difference D = K - a.P to zero is calculated (a = a factor depending on the process); and the (II) is changed to the amt for correction. -
