PURPOSE:To efficiently utilize a submarine cable by connecting a carrier communication equipment for an electric communication between a conductor for feeding power to an optical submarine repeater of an optical submarine cable and a ground return circuit, at both ends of the optical submarine cable. CONSTITUTION:A carrier communication equipment 5 for an electric communication is connected and arranged between a feeding conductor 3 and the earth. Therefore, a pseudo-coaxial structure is formed by the feeding conductor 3 of an optical submarine cable 1 and sea water, and shows a transmission characteristic of a low loss in a comparatively low frequency range. For instance, in the case of the existing optical submarine cable, the communication of about 400km and about 80km can be executed in a voice band and a basic group band (voice 12 channels), respectively for a one-line bidirectional communication. In such a manner, by adding a carrier communication equipment for an electric communication to an optical submarine cable system, the communication capacity extending from several channels to several tens of channels can be added. |
