PURPOSE:To provide an ink jet type serial printer which prevents the contamination of ink at the time of inserting a recording sheet into platens by holding a head at the standby position provided at the side of a typing position when the absence of recording sheet is detected by a recording sheet detector. CONSTITUTION:A platen is, for example, formed of a plante shaft 5, platen members 6-10, a right frame 1, an intermediate frame 2 and a left frame 3, a typing position is provided between the right frame and the intermediate frame 2, a standby position is provided between the frame 2 and the left frame 3 (e.g., the cap member 11 of the head is provided), and the head is movable to the standby position. When a recording sheet detector 22 detects the absence of recording sheet, the head 4 is held at the standby position. |
