<p>PURPOSE:To form a high-frequency hardened layer of a prescribed width on the surface of a circular cylindrical work by inserting a part of the work into a cylindrical conductor screwed to a face drive and heating the work by a high-frequency heating coil opposed to the surface of the work in proximity thereto. CONSTITUTION:One end of the circular cylindrical work 10 is supported by a center pin 32 of the face drive 30 and the other end by a center pin 40. The high-frequency coil 20 is disposed to face the surface of the work 10 in proximity thereto. The cylindrical conductor 50 made of a conductive metal is screwed by screws 31, 51 to the above-mentioned face drive 30 and is moved by the drive to insert a part 13 of the above-mentioned work 10 into the conductor. While the work 10 is rotated with the face drive 30, the heating coil 20 is energized to heat the work and thereafter, a cooling liquid for hardening is injected to rapidly cool the work. The surface of the work 10 is high-frequency hardened in this way and the hardened layer 12 of the prescribed range with the above- mentioned inserted part 13 as a non-hardened part is formed.</p> |
