A method for determining accurately the migration velocities for use in seismic migration processing of seismic data. The method presorts the seismic data into common-offset sections (14). The common-offset data is then migrated repeatedly with a selected range of velocities (16-22). The migrated data for each velocity is further sorted into a common-image point profile (24). The correct velocity per depth may then be determined by either determining the least time moveout for the common-image point at each depth (26), or computing the semblance for each common-image point and each test velocity and selecting the largest semblance value. <IMAGE>
