<p>Hydroxy-functional copolymers having a molecular weight Mn of from 2000 to 30,000 are prepared by reacting anhydride-functional copolymers with aminoalcohols, observing an equivalent ratio of amino groups to acid anhydride groups of from 1.0 to 2.0 : 1, at from 100 to 200 DEG C and simultaneously or subsequently removing the water of reaction by azeotropic distillation, and, if desired, subsequently further modifying the resultant hydroxyl-functional copolymer by reaction with from 0.05 to 5 mol of lactones per mole of hydroxyl groups present in the copolymers. The hydroxyl-functional copolymers are used as binders or binder components for paints, coatings, sealants, adhesives or printing inks.</p> |
