A subject-matter of the invention is a process for alkylation of phenols comprising reacting a phenol with a vinyl-aromatic hydrocarbon substituted in the vinyl group in the presence of an acid catalyst in an aqueous solution, of an organic solvent and of an inhibitor of polymerization. Moreover a subject-matter of the invention is the use of the reaction product obtained by this process, wherein the starting phenol is hydroquinone and the starting vinyl-aromatic hydrocarbon is alpha-methyl-styrene, for the production of polymers, in particular of thermotropic liquid crystalline polyesters. |
