UNDERCOATING LAYER FOR DYE DONOR FOR USE IN THERMAL DYE TRANSFER

PURPOSE: To obtain a material of a dye donor for thermal dye sublimation transfer by laminating an undercoat layer containing a binder and a swelling agent of aromatic polyol and a dye/binder layer sequentially on a support constituted of polyethylene terephthalate. CONSTITUTION: An undercoat layer containing a binder soluble in an organic solvent and at least one kind of swelling agent of aromatic polyol for polyethylene terephthalate is formed on a support constituted of the polyethylene terephthalate. A dye/binder layer having dye dispersed and contained in a binder is laminated on this undercoat layer and thereby a dye donor to be used for a thermal dye sublimation transfer method is formed. The binder is suitably a polyester resin binder soluble in a dechlorinated organic solvent. Besides, a dye barrier layer is suitably provided between the undercoat layer and the dye/binder layer.
