METHOD FOR COATING METAL STRIP WITH MOLTEN METAL

PURPOSE:To easily and accurately carry out molten metal plating giving a fine structure and ensuring uniform coating weight by successively melting a solid metal material for plating, atomizing the molten metal with ultrasonic waves and sticking the resulting mist to a travelling metal strip. CONSTITUTION:A platelike metal material 2 for coating is guided upward in a feeder 1A through the guide part 4 and melted by heating with a heater 6 to form a melt reservoir 12 in the top opening 5. Ultrasonic waves are generated with an ultrasonic generator 3 composed essentially of an oscillator 8, a resonator 10 and a converging cover 11. The generated ultrasonic waves are obliquely radiated on the opening 5 to atomize the molten metal in the reservoir 12. The resulting mist 13 is allowed to flow toward a steel strip S by feeding a carrier gas as required and the mist 13 is stuck to the surface of the strip S as a coating film. The coating weight of the coating film can accurately be regulated by controlling the feeding rate of the metal material 2 for coating and the intensity of the ultrasonic waves.
