A toilet seat is described which can be removed from the toilet bowl in a single step without leaving behind a single component. Each component can also be separated from the others for easier cleaning. The toilet seat comprises a seat (1) and a lid (2) which is hingedly mounted on pins (4, 4') located on vertical members (3, 3') which are attached to the holes (6, 6') in the toilet bowl (7) by pegs (5, 5'). These pegs enter the holes (6, 6') and engage the side walls thereof by means of horizontal forces F provided by an instant tensioning device (8). The spacing between the pegs can be adapted to that of the holes using a lockable adjusting device (32).
