This assembly is designed to be fitted to an existing window so as to convert it into a double-glazed window. It comprises a frame (5) formed by section (profile) elements joined together, hinges (7) which link and hinge the said frame (5) to the frame (1) of the original window and hinged locking members (8). The section elements have in general an "H"-shaped cross section, with two, longer, outer arms (9, 10), two, shorter, inner arms (11, 12) and a central web (13), which defines a groove (14) housing the edge of the pane (6) of the countersash window (4), and another groove (15) housing parts (24) of the hinges (7) and the locking members (8). Each section element comprises a third groove (20) which houses a seal (21) and which is defined by two unequal wings (18, 19), the longer of which is slightly shorter than the thickness of the seal (21). <IMAGE>
