PURPOSE:To obtain the title substance useful as an intermediate for drugs safely in high yield in reacting a 2-alkyl-4,5,6-trialkoxybenzaldehyde as a raw material with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of an acid catalyst, by using the raw material and hydrogen peroxide in a specific ratio. CONSTITUTION:In reacting a 2-alkyl-4,5,6-trialkoxybenzaldehyde as a raw material with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of an acid catalyst (especially ion exchange resin is preferably used), the raw material and hydrogen peroxide in the molar ratio of 1:1.0-2.0, especially 1:1.1-1.5 are used, successively or intermittently fed to a reactor and reacted at 5-80 deg.C, especially 25-40 deg.C to give the objective compound. H2O2 having 30-80% concentration, especially 50-70% concentration is preferably used. In carrying out the reaction, generally a tubular reactor is used and the raw material and H2O2 are simultaneously fed to the reactor. |
