The arrangement for stacking sheet material contains a pair of bands (6,7) tensioned on upper and lower roller systems to form a variable length transport path (30) between two input rollers (8,14) and at least one guide roller (11) mounted in a carriage (17) movable between end positions above a cassette (4). The guide roller is moved to pull the material into the transport path. The material is deposited onto the stack by shortening the transport path during the carriage's return to its first end position. There is at least one lower compensation roller (9) for transport path length variations. USE/ADVANTAGE - E.g. for rapidly and carefully depositing bank notes in cassette of an automatic teller machine.
