PURPOSE:To stably obtain the subject Al2O3-based ceramics having high strength and high toughness without fail by drying a mixture composed of a dispersion of SiC whisker containing a specified amount of O in an alcohol-water mixture solvent and a slurry-state Al2O3-based ceramics raw material, granulating the dried material, molding the granulated material and sintering the molded material. CONSTITUTION:SiC whisker containing 0.3-1.5 wt.% O is added to a mixture solution composed of an alcohol such as ethanol and water and e.g. ultrasonic energy is applied thereto to obtain an SiC whisker dispersion. The above- mentioned SiC whisker dispersion is then blended with a slurry-state Al2O3-based ceramics raw material and the resultant mixture is dried preferably by the spray drying method. The obtained dried mixture powder is then granulated, molded and sintered, thus giving the objective Al2O3-based ceramics containing surely dispersed needle-shaped SiC whisker. |
