NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula l. USE:An antifungicide. PREPARATION: Benanomicin A of formula II is treated with periodic acid (salt) to obtain a diformyl derivative of Benanomicin A in which two mutually adjacent OH on xylosyl part of Benanomicin A are oxidized. The resultant derivative is then treated with a reducing agent such as sodium borohydride.
