PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of a baking phenomenon when a certain display pattern continued for a several periods is switched to another display pattern by setting up an application voltage corresponding to an intermediate brightness area as an application voltage corresponding to the minimum gradation level of gradation display. CONSTITUTION:The voltage corresponding to the minimum gradation level in gradation display driving is set up to the application voltage corresponding to the range of the intermediate brightness area B in a brightness/application voltage characteristic curve. Since all the application voltages from the minimum gradation level up to the maximum gradation level are included within the range of the curve section from the intermediate area B up to its saturation area C, the shifting inclination of the brightness/application voltage characteristic curve due to continuous driving is identical from the minimum gradation level up to the maximum gradation level. Thereby, the generation of the baking phenomenon can be prevented at the time of switching a certain display pattern continued for a several periods to another display pattern.
