<p>A stationary central body 1, which may form part of the air intake of a turbo-jet engine, is provided with bulging parts 2, 3 displaced axially as well as over the circumference substantially by 180 DEG to one another. A telescopic sleeve 5, 6 may be axially extended into engagement with the bulging parts 2 and 3 to close off the passage 7. In an alternative embodiment (figure 2) the arrangement is applied to a composite gas-turbine/ram-jet engine having an outer annular ram air duct (10) into which air flows when the passage 7 is closed. Pivotable shutters 12, 13 obturate the ram air duct (10) when the passage 7 is open. The line of contact between the sleeve and the parts 2, 3 lies in an axially inclined plane thereby enabling a slim engine to be produced. <IMAGE></p> |
