Determining moisture in concrete additives during mixing - by monitoring of mixer drive power consumption

In producing concrete of optimum compsn. for building work the natural moisture content of additives must be taken into account. To provide such determn. to an accuracy better than +/- 0.5 mass %, the load on the mixer drive is measured. When the progressive load increase has reached a permissible max., a control computer operates while water is continuously added. Subsequent lifts in drive load, modified by the addn. of cement are used to calculate the moisture content of additive with high accuracy. The ratio of coarse grain/fine sand in the additive, which could affect results, is automatically allowed for. ADVANTAGE - Moisture is determined with high accuracy during a dual mixing process.
