The position sensor has an elongated magnetic coil (3, 4, 5) with a stationary soft magnetic core (6) having a small cross section relative to its length. The moving part has attached permanent magnets (8) displaced in the longitudinal direction of the magnetic core (6) to obtain a position-dependent magnetic saturation with evaluation of corresponding electrical values obtained form the measuring coil (3, 4, 5). The magnetic core (6) has a channel cross-section in the form of a V or U with the permanent magnet (8) displaced between its opposing arms (7) within the measuring coil (3, 4, 5). Pref. the latter is carried by a cylindrical former (2) fitted around the core (6). ADVANTAGE - Reduced error due to external magnetic fields.
