The machine tool has a bedplate (1) which supports a first slide (3) whcih carries the workpiece (17). This first slide carries a second slide (3`) which carries the tool. The tool (15) machines the workpiece by rotating about its longitudinal axis. The tool is mounted in a housing which also houses the driving motor and gears. This housing (9, 10) together with the tool can be rotated about the horizontal axis which is at right angles to the tool axis and intersects the axis of the workpiece.
