An electric heater (15) is energised via a bimetallic switch (27) and a safety switch (28) which opens at excess temp. or low water level. At a desired temp. the bimetallic switch (27) opens to trigger the timing clock (19) in which a motor (22) is energised via one pole pair of an on/off switch (23) and an electronic starter (31). This may incorporate a triac fired by an opto-coupler having its LED in parallel with the bimetallic switch (27).
