The sprocket of a chain drive, esp. for an i.c. engine incorporates a damping ring positioned radially inside the diameter of the chain-wheel teeth root lines, for guiding the damping ring belonging to the chain side bars. The sprocket is divided into an outer toothed rim (2) and a hub (1) radially spaced inside it and which is connected to the toothed rim (2) by sound-absorbent material filling the cavity between the two parts. USE/ADVANTAGE - The sprocket incorporates sound-absorbent material for damping the meshing noise resulting from a chain engaging with the chain wheel.
