The invention provides a fixed spike or a sleevemounted spike, fitted on a vehicle tire. The spike is shaped so that when it is in its state at rest its region in contact with the rubber is substantially smaller than the total surface area of the respective region of the spike, the flow, caused by the visco-elastic properties of the rubber, of the rubber around the spike, being arranged to soften the first contact between the tip of the fixed spike or the rivet of the sleeve-mounted spike and the road surface. |
