2-Thiohydantoin derivs. of formula (I) are prepd. by reacting a cpd. of formula (II) with isothiocyanate of formula R2NCS in an inert solvent in the presence of a basic catalyst such as triethylamine or pyridine. In the formulas, R1= alkoxyalkyl, dialkoxyalkyl, (1,3-dioxolan-2-yl)alkyl, (1,3-dioxolan-4-methyl2- yl)alkyl, (1,3-dioxolan-2-methyl-2-yl)alkyl, (1,3-benzodioxol-2-yl)alkyl opt. substd. by alkyl, alkoxy or halogen; R2= H, alkyl or aryl; R3 and R4 each= H or alkyl; R5= C1-4 alkyl or benzyl. (I) are useful as an anticonvulsant.
