PURPOSE: To prepare a hair care composition, comprising a nonrigid silicone gum containing an insolubilized granular material dispersed therein and having improved hair conditioning and style retaining properties. CONSTITUTION: This hair care composition comprises about 0.05 to about 10.0wt.%, preferably about 0.05 to about 7.0wt.% nonrigid silicone gum, containing a dispersed insolubilized granular material (having preferably about 0.1 to about 15.0μm, especially preferably about 0.15 to about 2.0μm average particle diameter) without interacting with the silicone gum used in an amount of about 0.01 to about 8.0wt.%, preferably about 0.01 to about 5.0wt.% based on the composition and having about 100,000 to about 300,000,000cSt, preferably about 1,000,000 to about 20,000,000cSt viscosity. An octylacrylamide/acrylate/ butylaminoethyl methacrylate copolymer is preferred as the insolubilized granular material, which sticks to interstices among hair shafts or onto the hair shafts to separate the hair shafts and impart an increased hair volume and good combing properties.
