PURPOSE: To provide an interface to a SONET STS-1 transmission line by providing the SONET receiving signal converter with a means for converting SONET format signal bits into a group of signal bits related to a specified transmission channel. CONSTITUTION: The converter includes a random access memory(RAM) 10 consisting of 96×32 bits, a RAM controller 12, a signal register circuit 14, a write correction multiplexer circuit 16, a frame decoder 17, an output multiplexer 18, and a register circuit 20 for storing a branch '0' and a channel '0' signal. SONET information is transmitted in series, a signal is extracted from a SONET frame as a group of four bits at a clock interval and applied as four parallel signal bits. The signal is stored in the RAM 10 and outputted as four bits expressing A to D signal bits for specified channels and these bits are inserted into a 16-bit byte in four out-of-frequency band bit positions.
