A heat exchanger (2) for aggressive, gaseous media, in particular for recovering the energy contained in the flue gas of a heating boiler, has a vertical container (4) in which is secured a bundle of tubes (24), in particular glass tubes, through which the gas flows and which are hermetically sealed by at least two vertically spaced perforated plates (20, 22). Between the perforated plates (20, 22) is arranged at least one heat transmission chamber for the medium to be heated, screened against inlet and outlet distributors. The aggressive medium flows down through the heat exchanger (2). A device enables the level of a cooling medium on the upper perforated plate (20) to be controlled.
