PURPOSE:To obtain a starch binder which can exhibit an excellent binding force by subjecting raw tapioca starch of a specified water content to conversion into alpha-starch and swelling with a twin-screw extruder. CONSTITUTION:A starch binder obtained by subjecting raw tapioca starch of a water content of 10-15wt.% to conversion into alpha-starch and swelling with a twin-screw extruder, cooling the product, and grinding it. It can be converted into alpha-starch with the water inherently contained in starch, namely only the water contained in an amount of 10-15wt.%, and once it is converted into alpha-starch, it can be easily ground by simply cooling by letting stand and is not degraded during storage. A molding produced therefrom does not degrade. The raw tapioca starch means one having a gelatinization initiation temperature >=50 deg.C and the form of a tapioca starch granule when microscopically observed (X600). Examples of the starch include unmodified raw tapioca starch and lowly modified tapioca starch. |
