<p>An endogenous brain factor or a fragment thereof, acting on the serotoninergic functions and having an essentially peptide nature, a molecular weight of approximately 3500 daltons, and a pK of about 5. It is heat stable and soluble in acetone up to 75 %, in primary alcohols up to 90 %, in water and in an acidic medium up to 1M, is 70 % inactive in acetonitrile, reacts negatively with anisaldehyde, and can be obtained by extraction from the cerebral cortex and by chromatographic purification.</p> |
