PRODUCTION OF COPOLYMER LATEX

PURPOSE:To obtain a latex which can give excellent bonding strength and blister resistance by emulsion-polymerizing a monomer mixture containing an ethylenically unsaturated monomer in the presence of a specified seed latex and an alpha-methylstyrene dimer. CONSTITUTION:The purpose copolymer latex is obtained by emulsion- polymerizing a monomer mixture containing 0-10wt.% ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer (a), 0-40wt.% ethylenically unsaturated crosslinking monomer (b) and a conjugated diene monomer and/or an ethylenically unsaturated monomer (c) other than components (a) and (b) and having a monomer composition different from that of the following seed latex in the presence of a seed latex formed by copolymerizing a monomer mixture containing 0-10wt.% ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer (d), 0-40wt.% ethylenically unsaturated crosslinking monomer (e) and 50-100wt.% conjugated diene monomer and/or ethylenically unsaturated monomer (f) other than components (d) and (e) and an alpha-methylstyrene dimer.
