An ultrasonic applicator (2) comprises a coupling surface (6) on its underside. It contains an ultrasonic transducer (22) which is pivotally mounted on a swivelling axis (32) and which can be made to oscillate by means of two essentially mutually perpendicular gear wheels (28, 34) driven by a shaft (26) of a motor (26) for the purpose of scanning a scanning angle region (11). The longitudinal axis (17) of the motor is essentially perpendicular to the axis of symmetry (15) of the scanning angle region (11). During part of its oscillating movement, the ultrasonic transducer (22) penetrates a recess (30) in the gear wheel (28) nearer the motor. The gear wheel (28) nearer the motor has a notch (38) which is arranged so that the path of the ultrasonic wave to and from the ultrasonic transducer (22) is not affected when the transducer penetrates the recess. |
