Heat produced by a chemical bed (17) reacting with CO2 evolved in portable breathing appts., is transferred to a heat collector (18) thermally coupled to a cooling unit. The collector is housed within a cartridge surrounded by the chemical bed and heat is dissipated by vaporisation of regenerable coolant liq., pref. in a heat-pipe in thermal contact with the surrounding atmos., which condenses coolant for return along an interemdiate pipe to the heat collection. ADVANTAGE - Cooling unit needs no maintenance and is incorporated in the breathing appts.. (Previously notified in Week 9132)
