Throttle idling air flow adjustment - involves plastic distortion of butterfly at air holes

The method adjusts the rate of air flow through a throttle with the butterfly in the idling position. The rate of flow is first measured, and the cross-section of a hole in the butterfly is then altered to give the desired rate. This is done by plastic distortion of the butterfly (2) at the holes (3, 4). Where there are two adjacent holes, these can be widened by means of tongs, whose jaws (5, 6) are inserted in them and then thrust apart or moved together. USE/ADVANTAGE - Simplicity and accuracy of idle adjustment by enlarging holes in throttle butterfly of IC engine carburettor.
