Compsn. for permanent waving of hair - using glycerol mono:thio:lactate as reducing agent for keratin

In a compsn. for permanent waving of hair, the active agent reducing keratin is a glycerol monothiolactate (I). Pref. (I) is used alone, esp. as glycerol 2-mercapto-propionate, in amt. of 4-30 wt.%. The pH of the compsn. is 4.5-9.0. Before use, the compsn. is prepd. by mixing 2 or 3 components, using anhydrous (I). Before and/or after shaping, the hair is treated with (I) as shaping agent, followed by rinsing, oxidative treatment, rinsing, opt. setting, and drying. Treatment is with 60-120 g of (I) for 5-30 mins., or for 5-20 mins. with heating. ADVANTAGE - The compsn. can be used in acid or weakly basic media (pH 6-9) and does not cause the allergy problems of glycerol monothioglycolate.
