Endless belt conveyor - has air cushion to support belt between driving drum and driven drum

The method is for increasing the load carrying capacity of a belt type conveyor. The conveyor consists of an endless belt which passes around a driving drum (1.1) and a driven drum (1.2). The belt is supported by a plate (2) placed under the belt (6). The plate has a raised edge (4) extending around its perimeter. The plate can be adjusted for height so that a narrow gap is formed between the raised edge and the belt. Compressed air is supplied to the space between plate and belt at a rate equal to the outflow through the gap so that a steady pressure is maintained between belt and plate.
