An epoxy resin having a propenyl group conjugated with an aromatic ring is heat resistant and is easily molded and cured into products having high strength and Tg. It is thus useful as a resin component or modifier. Its formula is: <CHEM> wherein R<1> is hydrogen or a substituted or unsubstituted monovalent hydrocarbon group having 1 to 11 carbon atoms, X is hydrogen or a halogen atom, letters l and m are integers of 0 to 50, with the proviso that m is an integer of 1 to 50 when l = 0, and l is an integer of 1 to 50 when m = 0.
