PRODUCTION OF BIS(AMINOMETHYL)NORCAMPHANES

PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound in high yield in a short time under mild condition by using a norcamphane dicarbonitrile compound as a raw material and subjecting the nitrile to catalytic hydrogenation in the presence of an organic solvent and ammonia using a supported cobalt catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The compound of formula II is produced by using a norcamphane dicarbonitrile compound of formula I (X and Y are H or cyano and are different from each other) as a raw material and subjecting the nitrile to catalytic hydrogenation in the presence of an organic solvent and ammonia using a supported cobalt catalyst. The supported cobalt catalyst is produced by supporting a cobalt catalyst on a carrier such as silica or alumina. The particle size of the catalyst is preferably 100-250 mesh and the amount of the catalyst is 0.05-20wt.% based on the raw material. The organic solvent is e.g. benzene in an amount of 0.05-20wt.%. The molar ratio of ammonia to the raw material is 0.5-30.
