<p>A web cutter (11,41,91) for use in high speed web transport machines has a roller with a hub (23,45,95), two flanges (21,43,93) and three knives (31,53,97) supported on the hub between the flanges. In one preferred embodiment the web rides on shoulders (27) provided on the flanges. In another embodiment, the web rides on spacers (49) that are held in position by spring biased conically tipped pilot pins (72,75,77,79,81). In a third embodiment the web rides on a slotted cylinder (99). In all embodiments the web is brought into engagement with one of the knives directly in response to excessive tension in the web.</p> |
