PURPOSE: To maximize the variation of amplitude in a die by vibrating an annular material with the selected frequency in a selected mode, at the time of forming a neck part and a shoulder part by reducing the diameter of the tubular barrel body, such as can body. CONSTITUTION: A metallic sheet of Al alloy etc., is deeply drawn and the diameter of the can body 15 is reduced to form the shoulder part 13 and the neck part 14. A cylindrical side wall 16 closing the one side of end part with a dome type bottom wall 17, is provided. This die is composed of a decomposable mandrel 18, and an annular die 19 for surrounding the mandrel, in which a die member 20 surrounded with a die holder 21 is disposed. A transducer 22 for exciting the die 19, is provided and a chord type flat surface which cuts the peripheral wall at the reverse side with the receiving surface of the transducer, is provided. This die is designed so that resonance frequency of the die in this mode corresponds to the number of vibration in an ultrasonic vibration generator. At the time of designing the die, a finite element analysis is used to obtain high accurate result. In this way, a radial vibration mode in a specific frequency can be maximized to the variation of amplitude in the die at the position on the working surface of the die.
