PURPOSE:To display an image which has high brightness even at its outer peripheral part on a display panel by converging the light of the outer peripheral part of luminous flux on inside the display area of the display panel through a luminous flux compressing lens. CONSTITUTION:The luminous flux from a light source 50 is made much wider than the display area of the display panel 30 and the light of the outer periph eral part of the luminous flux is converged by the luminous flux compressing lens 60 on inside the display area of the display panel 30. Thus the luminous flux passed through the luminous flux compressing lens 60 is made high in brightness at the outer peripheral part and this light is corrected by a correcting lens 61 into parallel light which is parallel to the optical axis of incidence on the display panel 30 and made incident on the display panel 30. Therefore, the light from the light source 50 can be made incident even on the outer periph eral part of the display panel 30 as high-brightness light. Consequently, the image which has high brightness even at the outer peripheral part can be dis played on the display panel 30 and the image of good quality which is bright over the image plane can be projected on a screen surface. |
