The invention relates to a tool for grooming animals with long hair, in particular for grooming long-haired dogs, especially the Briard breed (sheep dogs). This tool comprises a support plate (1), a handle (2), knot-cutting blades, especially three in number (5, 6 and 7), provided with a concave cutting edge (5a) and with an overhanging tip (5b) at the far end from the support plate, two side flanges (3 and 4) designed to come into contact with the skin via their lower edge and, preferably, a row of comb teeth (10) located behind the knot-cutting blades. During brushing (combing), the knot-cutting blades hook into the coat hairs which are knotted or matted together and their cutting edge cuts the latter so as to avoid any painful pulling of the animal's fur; the teeth (10) then perform the brushing proper of the fur. <IMAGE>
